*Please Leave A Greeting For Jimm's Family*

Now that Jimm is gone, you are invited to write down your thoughts, reactions.. or notes to his amazing family. I will leave the text of the original post intact.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Someone suggested that it would be nice to have a sort of visitor's book here so that when Jimm gets better he will know who has checked in, and he can read all the thoughts that his friends have had -and enjoy their well wishes.

Please leave your name and a message for Jimm here!!
Click on "comments" below and a window will open that should make it easy for everyone to enter a note.. and to read all the others as well.
Thanks! -Note: If you access this post directly from the archive list, the comments may already be visible. In that case, please scroll down past all the existing greetings and find the "post a comment" link there.

I need to tell you how wonderful it is to see all these notes. The way they keep coming is an inspiration to all of us. Every so often I print up the greetings and take them, or have a family member take them to his room, so they can be read to him. Thanks so very much to each of you for taking the time to leave Jimm a message. Each one is sincerely appreciated.

Jimm & Family, This is a poen that we've had for years that has so much meaning. We thought of you and your family...
Don't Quit Now
When things go wrong,
as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit -
Rest if you must, but - don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt'
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
It's when things seem worst that you musn't quit. Author Unknown.

Hang In There! Joe & Kathy

"Please tell everyone I said thank you so much for all you're doing and I miss you all".

Hang in there, Jimm and family.
You are remarkable people.

The brain is a fantastic organ which has the ability to heal itself. Over time, long and short, abilities reappear just when you start thinking that they won't.

Every stroke is different. But I feel that I must tell you this:

In late August 1990, my 72-yr-old husband had a left-brain stroke, caused by atrial fibrillation. About 95% of right-side paralysis subsided in hours. He spoke well, asked for food, etc. About the 2nd or 3rd day, he became lethargic, then comatose for several days; scans revealed massive bleeding which in essence was causing much more damage than the original stroke. I was told that if he survived, he would be in a vegetative state.

His cardiologist encouraged us to stimulate him in anyway we could to get him awake. We tried. By the next week he began responding, and continued to do so, a little at a time, so well that by the end of the 3rd week he was sent to rehab.

In rehab, the ward was hell, but the therapy department was terrific. Long story short, he came home in November; by the end of the month, after learning to read, write, add and subtract, and having done numerous cognitive exercises, he resumed doing the household finances.

The only lasting damage was visual: he is blind in the left half of both eyes; but it hasn't hampered him. He had cataract surgeries in the past 5 years which gave him more joy in reading, one of his favorite pastimes.

Subsequent strokes in late 1990's robbed him of his personality. (No hospitalization those times.) It took about a year to be sociable again and another 3 or 4 years to be completely "himself" but we surely enjoyed all of that time. He has enjoyed the subsequent years the most, of course.

A PBS show, "The Brain Fitness Program," ran during fund raising recently on MPT. I found it to be a terrific explanation of how the brain functions; it gives us all hope.

The Brain Fitness Program I mentioned will be shown again soon on MPT:

In my opinion everybody over 30 yrs of age and all stroke
victims/families should see this program.

Keep the faith. Best wishes and prayers for a positive outcome.

Jimm-
Each day you are in my thoughts and prayers. Harry and I often talk about you when out golfing (yes even in Winter) and hope for your recovery. I would like you to know that although we are not with you in person, we are with you in spirit.
Be strong. Be courageous. You are loved by many.

Deborah, Jenna, Laura, Mandi and the rest of Jimm's friends and family ~

It's impossible to put into words the sorrow that I share with you. God must have had some bigger plans for Jimm, to call him home so soon.

My friendship with Jimm goes back to the late `80s when MPT was producing a live New Year's Eve special from the Meyerhoff with Harry Anderson and Mel Torme: I was a freelancer and Jimm was standing behind me in the chow line. I turned around and asked, "and who are you???" Well, the rest is history.

Jimm was enigmatic, charismatic and compassionate. He was honest and had great integrity. He valued his friends and family and the love of his life was his daughter Jenna: he would do anything for her.

What you saw was what you got with Jimm. I could go on, but we all knew Jimm for the good, decent man that he was. When God created Jimm, he threw away the mold. He was indeed, very special.

Jimm, you were loved and you'll be missed.
